Comique Revolution Blanc 2010 Central Coast, CA Look at this — another wine that won me over with its label artistry! I’m so predictable. This time, that art is an alluring blend of golden tones with black lines portraying some odd lords and ladies along with exclamations that they had to “cut the fluff!” apparently

Alexander Valley Rendition Zinfandel 2009

Alexander Valley Rendition Zinfandel 2009 Sonoma Country, CA Strawberry and nectarine simmered with nutmeg are the most prominent smells from this leathery red wine. It smells sharp, full-bodied, and young.  Strawberry remains when drinking it, but the spice is more akin to allspice. It tastes a lot lighter than it smells, and eucalyptus and brown

Lazy Bones Cabernet Franc 2009 Paso Robles, CA This wine has quite the backstory, from the crazy label (is that art deco?) of a naked woman hanging out on her bed to the explanation of why on the back of the bottle. Lazy Bones, you see, is for those lazy days when all you want

Novella Synergy 2008

Novella Synergy 2008 Paso Robles, CA This is a very smooth blend of bunches of varietals. The nose smells richly of ripe strawberries and blueberries. There’s a hint of spice. It’s a lightweight wine and easy to drink. Tannins are light, and the strawberry is in full effect when sipping, with a small amount of

Blue Fin Chardonnay 2008 Napa, California This wine is bland on first sip, but then a note of eucalyptus chimes in. It’s just a fleeting note, though, so bland still wins the day for me. It might be a stretch, but I think I taste pineapple and light brown sugar. It’s quite sweet for a

La Granja 360 Tempranillo 2008 Carinena, Spain My first impression on drinking: This is not a great wine. Both the nose and first sip were of wet cigarettes. But other flavors worked their way in slowly, some tart raspberry, earth, leaves, and then clove, lots of clove. By the end, a layer of dark chocolate

Schloss Biebrech Sekt — Wine Review

Wine: Schloss Biebrich Sekt Region: Germany This sparkling wine is light gold, nearing opaqueness.  It has a smooth feel going down.  The bubbles tease more than assault (I’m not a big carbonation fan). It tastes pleasant, with a floral note beneath its mild orange flavor.  It is sweet, simple, and appealing.

This is my 50th Red Wine Review! That means I can take the day off, right? No, not that celebratory a cause? Aw, shucks. Without further adieu . . . Wine: Falcon Ridge Syrah 2006 Region: Central Coast, CA There is some sort of fruit trying to wave at my nose hairs in this wine.
