I just finished Mixed Up: Cocktail Recipes (and Flash Fiction) for the Discerning Drinker (and Reader), which is a little black book full of exactly what it says on the label. How often can us spirit lovers say that? This book would make a thoughtful gift for the cocktail lovers in your life, as it

At summer’s onset, I took part in a press trip to Lodi, CA, a wine region I’ve become happily familiar with over the last year. Took part means I tried all the wines and enjoyed all the experiences mentioned in this post courtesy of the Visit Lodi tourism bureau – and I was not compensated

A few months back, I received a unique shipment of wine samples from the Scotto Cellars portfolio. Disclaimer: Samples means these wines were free for me to review. This fifth-generation winemaking family based in Lodi, California, has impressed me with their range of offerings, from the Scotto Family Cellars’ delicious, soft 2013 Malbec to the

Obligatory disclaimer: The food I’m about to review from Gott’s Roadside summer menu was entirely free to me. I love when restaurants add new menu items to celebrate a change in seasons. I love it even more when they invite me out to taste them. You might think mid-August a little late to write up

In May, the Association for the Promotion of Wines and Spirits in North America (the APVSA, based in Montreal) came to San Francisco on their spring tasting tour–the Wine Not! Tour. As a member of the new media, I was invited along to taste the wines they sampled for potential distributors, importers, and retail clients.

Farley’s East (33 Grand Ave) has been a fixture of Oakland’s Uptown neighborhood for eight years now, and after the space next door opened up, owners Chris and Amy Hillyard jumped at the chance to expand the shop. Especially as the purchase would mean that Farley’s East would finally acquire a full kitchen! Yes, it’s

Obligatory disclaimer: Grass Roots Farmer’s Coop sent me their meat for free in exchange for this review. I don’t do many blogs in which I cook – as I like to say, I enjoy it more when I get to appreciate someone else’s artistry on my plate. But I am occasionally offered chances for product

In late May, the Visit Lodi tourism bureau invited me and a few other bloggers out for a press trip introducing us to all Lodi has to offer for a weekend trip. The word has spread about Lodi’s quality grapes and up-and-coming wine estates, but there’s not a lot out there yet on what else
