Trellis Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 Other words on the label: Sonoma County The wine is almost brown in color.  It smells delicious, like fruit being grilled over a mesquite flame.  The taste is a combination of molasses, peach, and a rich cherry undertone.  With smokiness in every sip, it’s definitely a wine worth drinking. Reviewed 5.22.09.

Petit Caprice Vin de Pays 2007 Other words on the label: Mis en bouteille a la propriete, Vin de pays de vaucluse, Red table wine, Product of France. The nose of this wine is light and plummy, yet the first mouthful is very juicy and tannic. I honestly taste zucchini once the initial punch of

Pancake Cellars 2007 Big Day White Other Words on the Label:  Paso Robles, California This wine is worth buying for the novelty of the label art alone.  A giant flapjack grape terrorizes a city block and a quick turn to the back reveals that it is all the dream of a young pancake grape, safely

Mars and Venus Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 The nose is musty but in a good, inviting way.  It smells closest to sweet tobacco from a pipe. The taste is complex and not obnoxiously so, like some wines that pack in too many flavors.  Extra ripe fig is the main player.  It is medium-bodied and has a

This red wine is packed full of berry, with a touch of citrus.  Blueberry and unripened blackberry are the main elements and now I wonder if that citrus was really just the tartness of the blackberry.  There is an earthiness of soil as well. I couldn’t make it through a glass.  I blame the blueberry.

Two Vines Chardonnay Washington State 2005 Columbia-Crest   The oak is strong in this one.  And it’s an excellent oak that imparts smokiness to the wine and a touch of sweetness.  It has a very clean minerality, by which I mean that there is a taste of wet pebbles that’s refreshing, not too bitter or

Other words on the label: Producto de Espana The label displays an abstract, lined portrait on a mustard yellow background. The nose brings me back to my first taste of freeze-dried strawberries at the San Francisco exploratorium when I was young. Astronaut food totally rocks. Paprika also has a presence here. As for the actual

Other words on the label: Rhone Valley Vineyards Cotes Du Ventaux Appellation Cotes Du Ventaux controlee This wine is a blend of grenache, syrah, carignan, and cinsault. I’ve only heard of the first two before. There are an awful lot of grape varietals in the world, aren’t there? It smells sweet, smooth, and tingly with
