I don’t know a lot about Washington wine. I’m aware Yakima Valley is a wine destination, because my mother lives in little Tieton to the north of Yakima itself. But my family doesn’t drink, so I’ve only gone tasting out there once. As much as I know I need to visit more wineries local to

Lay of the Land Sauvignon Blanc 2015 Marlborough, New Zealand Sauvignon blanc can be a hard sell for me, as I often find it to have broth-like qualities interfering with the crisp acidity that I crave. No such problem with winemaker Mike Paterson’s Lay of the Land, which came to me through my NakedWines.com order.

Mauricio Lorca’s Angel’s Reserve Torrontes 2015 La Rioja, Argentina Wine Review: Brine sneaks into the clam chowder in this glass. For my sixth Mac and Cheese Night, the husband and I went a little upscale, heading to Paragon right outside AT&T Park. That picture reminds me that I wish we’d sat outside, but I had suspected it would get chilly so outside seemed the less desirable option. But it never did get chilly, and inside,

I have a pair of cocktails to share with you today. Each features the trio of pisco, orange, and a Royal Rose simple syrup. As you may recall, Royal Rose sent me a sampler of their organic, small-batch syrups a while back (meaning it was free!). I’ve been slowly sharing new cocktail recipes that feature

Seigneurs de Bergerac 2011 Bergerac Sec Dordogne Valley, France This wine was part of a value pack from my wine shop up the street. It’s pale yellow. The nose is a well-blended mix of flowers and minerals. Mildly sweet, and tannins play against that sweetness for a nicely balanced body. The lime is perhaps too

Alamos Torrontes 2009

Alamos Torrontes 2009 Catana, Argentina This is the perfect white wine for me. It’s very tart with plentiful grapefruit and acidity at first, but that gets bathed and soothed with a vegetal greenness: leek? celery? Vanilla pops in with a slight tang of eucalyptus to help wash things down.
