Oh, this is so very thin and unappealing. My word, I haven’t had a wine this uninspired in a while. It tastes metallic, with thin strawberry and fig flavors. There’s a little bit of greenery involved that reminds me of eucalyptus. It’s okay, but there are so many better wines in the world.

The color is a ruby red with black highlights. The nose is maraschino cherries, blueberry jam, cocoa powder and a little tea. The Terrenal starts out with bright sweet cherry that quickly changes to blackberry, cassis and licorice. There are nice flavors, but the wine comes off as a bit on the watery side. The mid-palate brings chocolate ganache and some spice, the finish is cassis and chocolate, but it gives up a little too soon.

I can’t remember the last time I got an “off” bottle from a wine shop, but an “off” bottle from Trader Joe’s is getting to be way too commonplace ( I should know,I drink enough of it for the website). That you had metallic and green flavors tells me that the wine was in a too hot container or subjected to hot and cold extremes. People buy a five dollar wine that tastes awful and figure, of course its awful, its cheap. But in actuality it was mishandled in shipping. Stick the cork back in and take it back to TJ’s for an exchange, these 5 buck wines may not be exciting, but they are a whole lot of fun (when they are handled right). Thanks for posting my tasting notes!

I have had a few bottles of these wines and found them all pleasant. I have not noticed any metallic flavors. Also fig was not a flavor I noticed, so the wine may have some issues.

I have purchased wine from Trader Joe’s that was spoiled. A bottle of Moscato from CA which I purchased for $3.99 was clearly sour. I took it back. Most of their stuff is a bargain.

Sounds like it may have just been a bad bottle! Did you happen to try their Macabeo and Chardonnay Blend? I’m blogging on that on Wednesday, and it didn’t impress me much, either.
